Our Wedding

We have chosen the town of Altafulla to celebrate our Wedding, it is our happy place and we're so excited for you to experience it with us. Located on La Costa Dorada (Golden Coast) of Catalunya, the town has maintained an authentic charm and peacefulness, that is so hard to find.

Altafulla is divided between the quiet coastline (Botigues del Mar), and the old town (Vila Closca). The seafront is lined with old fishermen’s houses, sand dunes and roman ruins. In the distance the beautiful Castell de Tamarit adds to the charm.

The hilltop village, originally built as a lookout against pirates and invaders, reflects the meaning behind the name “Altafulla,” which translates to “high leaf.” Its elevated position makes it visible from afar, with the church and castle rising above the skyline. Wandering through its cobbled streets and quiet squares feels like stepping back in time.

This mix of unspoiled nature, rich history, and great food makes Altafulla a real hidden gem of the Catalan coast, that we can't wait to share with you.

Altafulla a coastal town on the edge of the city of Tarragona, about 1h south of Barcelona.

AIRPORTS

Barcelona Airport will have the most flight options, and is 1 hour north of Altafulla. Reus Airport is the small regional airport of Tarragona, that only operates in the summer on a few routes, but is under 30 minutes away from Altafulla.

From Barcelona Airport to Altafulla

By Train: Trains run every 30 minutes from Terminal 2 to Barcelonas main train station Estació de Sants. Here change to the regional train lines R14, R15 or R16. Costs under 10€ per person, and takes just 1.5h in total. By Bus: BusPlana operates hourly buses that stop Altafulla on all routes. This route costs under 20€ per person, taking about 1 hour to Altafulla. By Taxi: Altafulla is a 1 hour drive from Barcelona airport. You can pre-book a transfer via Booking.com, or head to the taxi queue outside the airport terminal. The ride will cost around 120€. By Car: There are also plenty of car hire options available if you prefer the flexibility of having your own vehicle.

From Reus Airport to Altafulla

By Taxi: Altafulla is under a 30 minute drive from Reus Airport. You can pre-book a transfer via Booking.com, or head to the taxi queue outside the airport terminal. The ride will costs around €60. By Car: There are a few car hire options available if you prefer the flexibility of having your own vehicle.

Getting Around

Once you’re in town, you won’t need any transport to get around — Altafulla is small and walkable, with beaches, restaurants, and sights all close by. We’ll share details about wedding day transportation arrangements closer to the time.

Getting There

We recommend staying at one of these hotels — most of them are located just a few steps away from Altafulla’s seafront promenade Carrer Botigues del Mar. The wedding venue Castell de Tamarit is about a 30 minute walk down the beach or a 10 minute drive/taxi ride away. If you're planning to stay for 4 days or more, Tamarit Beach Resort (a campsite with great facilities) is also a fantastic option, right next to the Castell de Tamarit.

Our recommendation: Hotel May is our favorite hotel in Altafulla. The rooms are new and confortable, the breakfast is great, and the rooftop pool with sea views is perfect — both for a morning swim or a cocktail in the afternoon.

Boutique Hotel May

Hotel Mar offers a similar quality and price range, but with a slightly more family-friendly setup. The rooms are spacious, there’s a kids’ club, multiple pools, and several on-site restaurants.

Located right next door to Hotel May and Hotel Mar, Hotel Yola is a great, more budget-friendly option, with a pool, just steps from the beach.

Tamarit Beach Resort offers a mix of camping pitches, glamping tents, fully equipped bungalows, and tons of facilities. It is located further from the town but right on the beach next to the wedding venue. They only take weekly bookings in July, so this is a great option if you’re planning to stay a bit longer or turn the trip into a holiday!

Airbnb

There are some Airbnb options in Altafulla, though many require weekly bookings. The town is small, so if you’re going the Airbnb route, make sure to stay either at Altafulla Beach (by the hotels we’ve listed) or in the old town, which is about a 15-minute walk away. We don’t recommend booking in any other towns nearby — they might look close on the map, but they’re not walkable and even if you have a car, parking can be tricky — so being able to walk everywhere will make your life much easier.&nbsp;

Enjoy the Beach

Altafulla’s Beach is beautifully conserved and provides over 1km of yellow sand and soft waves, with an untouched backdrop. Perfect for swimming, reading under an umbrella, or walking barefoot along the shore. If you follow the beach south, you’ll reach Platja de Tamarit, where you can catch a glimpse of Castell de Tamarit, where our wedding will take place, it’s a beautiful spot to wander to and soak up the views. Kayak and Paddle Surf rentals can be found along the beach.

Visit the Town

Start down by the sea in Les Botigues de Mar, the old fishermen’s quarter where whitewashed cottages sit quietly facing the water. From there, it’s just a 15-minute uphill walk to the historic old town (Vila Closca). You’ll be rewarded with cobbled streets, weathered stone walls, and little plazas suspended in time. Along the way, stop by Plaça del Pou, where a sculpture pays tribute to castells (Catalonia’s iconic human towers) then continue to the Church of Sant Martí, built in 1701. At the very top sits the Castell de Altafulla, a medieval fortress from the year 1000 (private and can’t be visited).

Roman Ruins

In Roman times, Altafulla served as the summer escape for wealthy citizens of Tarraco, the capital of Roman Spain. The Roman Villa of Els Munts, still standing nearby, was once the summer home of Caius Valerius, who was the mayor of Tarraco. This site features mosaics, remains of thermal baths, and gardens. If you’re into history and have more time in the area, we also recommend visiting Tarragona’s World Heritage archaeological sites, including a Roman Amphitheater and Aqueduct (Pont del Diable)

Coastal Walk

The Camí de Ronda is a scenic trail that winds along Altafulla’s shoreline, offers a scenic walk the lookout point Mirador Passeig del Fortí to the Torredembarra lighthouse (about 1 km each way)

Places to Eat

Mar Salada

Our favorite restaurant on the promenade, especially for its paella. If you go, Xavi highly recommends ordering the "Torrijas" dessert—Spain's version of French toast. It’s absolutely delicious.

Lola Bistro

Cute wine bar in the old town with friendly staff, also offering high-quality traditional tapas.

Cal Vitali

Another great option on the beach. While their paellas are good, their speciality is fresh seafood. If it’s on the menu, be sure to try the tellines.

Faristol

Relaxed tapas in a cozy patio in the old town with a great vibe, especially at night when they have live music and serve cocktails.

Aromatic

Shaded terrace at a short walk from the beach, with plenty of vegetarian options.

We will provide a coach from Barcelona to Castell de Tamarit, departing in the early afternoon. There will be one stop at Altafulla Mar (near Hotel May) for guests staying nearby. Departure &amp; return times and location will be confirmed to those on the list closer to the day. Parking is also available at the venue if you prefer to drive.
